Our society should NOT make laws based on what a particular religious group views as "sin." Different faiths disagree on what is a sin, so to use this as the basis for law is forcing a certain religious view onto all citizens through the government.
If we allow the use of religion in government, then we should be all prepared to have a different religion forced onto us all one day. The only safe play here is to completely separate politics from religion, and visa versa.
