They were not 'illegal' firearms but the young man used them in illeal ways. BIG DIFFERENCE.
I own several good guns but I sure don't go around shooting them in the air endangering folk and then pointing them at the police. AND THAT IS WHAT HE DID. Yes he got shot... they had no choice once he started pointing the guns at them.
