Obama welcomes Baylor women’s basketball team to White House

The Baylor women’s basketball team has a big fan in the Oval Office because of their skill, their grit, their character and, oh, one more thing …

The president of the United States picked them in his office pool to win the NCAA title.

“I want to thank all of the outstanding young women who are behind me, and the coach, for making my bracket look good, at least on the women’s side,” said President Barack Obama, who welcomed the 2012 NCAA women’s basketball champions to the East Room of the White House this afternoon.

The Lady Bears took home the NCAA title after garnering 40 wins en route to an undefeated season. They were unrelentingly dominant throughout their title run, totaling 3,163 points to set a new NCAA women’s single-season record. Over its 40 wins, the most ever in a single season by a men’s or women’s collegiate basketball program, Baylor held its opponents to ice-cold 31 percent shooting from the field.
