London — The Design for London’s Olympic Opening ceremony was unveiled today.
Artistic Director Danny Boyle revealed a rendering of what the stadium will look like during the festivities.
The stadium will transform into a British meadow filled with cows, ducks, and a horse-drawn plow. There are even promises of artificial rain.
One end will reflect the Glastonbury Music Festival, held annually on a dairy farm in Southwest England. On the opposite end, the theme will be “The Last Night of the Proms”, an annual classic music festival.
Danny Boyle commented on the magnitude of this summer’s London Games,
“This land 200 years ago was meadow, and it went through an extraordinary transformation. These are enormous undertakings, and like they always say, it’s the biggest thing any country does apart from mobilize for war, and yet this is a celebration of peace.”
The opening ceremonies begin July 27th and is expected to draw a television audience of over a billion people.
