Teen swimmer balances Olympic training, school
American swimmer Missy Franklin has her sights set on making it to the London Olympics. The 17-year-old from Denver Colorado is training hard for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.
She is no stranger to success, winning five medals, including three gold medals at last year’s world championships.
Franklin faces obstacles that are foreign to many Olympic hopefuls. Balancing Olympic training, while attending classes and competing for her high school team can become strenuous. However, handling the pressure doesn’t seem to be an issue for Missy since she maintains a 4.0 GPA and won FINA’s Swimmer of year award in 2011.
The first Olympic swimming event is set to begin Saturday July 28th.
