Operation appreciation troop support donations
American Legion Post 281's Operation Appreciation to support troops stationed abroad is collecting items for its second shipment of the year.
Post 281 sends items to troops abroad three times a year, with each package seasonally appropriate.
KETK spoke with Linda Reed, the director of Operation Appreciation, who says they still need more items for this season's packages.
Reed said any of the following items would be acceptable:
- Any individually wrapped food or drink items
- Hard candies
- Activity items: games, cards, puzzles
- Bug spray
- Dental floss
- Letters or cards
Reed made clear that no more toothpaste was needed!
They also need names of soldiers that are deployed.
If you know of any soldiers recently deployed and would like to have them added to the list, please email Linda Reed at email@example.com .
Money in cash or check is a perfectly acceptable form of donation. This form of donation should be written to 'American Legion Post 281' and mailed to:
PO Box 811
Gladewater, TX 75647
Write 'Operation Appreciation Troop Support' in the memo line of any checks.
The deadline for this season's shipment is June 22, 2012. Reed emphasized the importance of this deadline so that the packages reach the troops by July 4th.
A drop-off point for Operation Appreciation is the Toyota of Longview at 1400 W. Loop 281. For any other information on volunteering or donating to this cause contact Linda Reed at the above email address or at: 903.806.2900
