CNN — Consider this week a "Transformers" info-dump.
Not only do we now know that the fourth installment of Michael Bay's franchise is planning to start filming in metro Detroit in the spring, but we also have some plot details.
When the Michigan Film Office revealed that the "Transformers" franchise is returning to Detroit for production, it also let slip that in the new movie, the "Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet."
But - and you knew there was going to be a "but" - "a group of powerful, ingenious businessman and scientists attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control -- all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his crosshairs," the plot description says. "The epic adventure and battle between good and evil, freedom and enslavement ensues."
Bay has previously described the new "Transformers" film not as a reboot, but as a fresh beginning.
"[T]his 'Transformers' will feel very different than the last three," he said in February. "We are embarking on a new trilogy."
