SMITH COUNTY (KETK) — Cyclists will be allowed immediately to ride their bikes on Toll 49, but not without a few stipulations in the future.
According to the Northeast Texas Regional Mobility Authority, cyclists will be allowed to travel on Toll 49 from Highway 110 South to Highway 155 South, however, they are banned from all other parts of the road.
Bikers will also be required to raise $60,000 by July for striping and signage. If they don't, bicyclists will no longer get to use the toll road.
Some local residents are angered by Tuesday's decision because it only gives them four months to develop the money. At this time, the needed funds are not available.
