A new study reports hospital deaths went down slightly over the past 10 years, while deaths at home slightly grew.
The CDC believes the numbers could be the result of more people choosing hospice care.
Dr. Tom Beets of Hospice of East Texas says he has seen a gradual increase in the number of families choosing hospice care in East Texas.
Though the hospital is the right choice for some patients and their families, others say being surrounded by the familiar can add a greater sense of peace for patients and their loved ones during a difficult time.
"If they know they don't have a lot of days left, and if they have the opportunity and can have someone provide care for them in their own home, there's no better place to be," said Jeffrey Youngblood, RN for Hospice of East Texas.
