According to investigators, as of Wednesday, the estimation for this bust was raised to $990,000.
Houston, TX (KPRC) — Neighbors are in shock after finding out they were living next to not one, but two homes where illegal activity was going on.
Behind the closed doors of a house neighbors say smelt like pot, authorities discovered a grow house with row after row across the floors.
Harris County Lieutenant Constable David Escobar of Precinct Four said:
"It's very elaborate. There's upscale lighting and humidifiers and everything you would need to grow these plants in an optimum way."
The growers setup was described as "a house within a house".
Investigators initially estimated the total worth of the pot to be 500 thousand dollars, but on Wednesday, they said it was more like 990 thousand dollars.
But this is not why officers were in the North Houston neighborhood, they were only the to help deputies, . Sheriff's deputies needed their help with recovering a stolen pickup.
The found the stolen pickup and also came across the third crime, 21 illegal immigrants from El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico.
While they were investigating, officers say a strong odor alerted them to the house next door. Officers obtained a search warrant and went in.
Neighbors smelled the odor for months, but hardly ever saw anyone at that house.
No charges have been filed at all, but the illegal immigrants are now in custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
