Winona, TX — A Smith County man was killed in an ATV crash on Thursday night.
It happened at 8:00pm on the 17000 block of FM 1252, just south of Winona.
According to Smith County Sheriff officials, the ATV driver, Juan Espinoza, 21, borrowed the ATV from a coworker.
When Espinoza was gone for longer than he had expected to be, the coworker became concerned and went to look for him.
The coworker discovered the ATV, found Espinoza unconscious nearby, and began to conduct CPR until EMS arrived.
Espinoza could not be saved, and was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Mitch Shamburger.
EMS crews say that Espinoza sustained massive head trauma. He had reportedly not been wearing a helmet.
