Tyler, TX (KETK) — Good Friday for many Christians is a day of reverance and quiet reflection.
However, Pastor Rick Gray at Faith Baptist Church in Chandler says there's a reason for the word "good" in Good Friday.
Gray says, "somebody asked me this last week, why is friday good, if that was the day he was crucified? Well that's the best thing that ever happened when he chose to die for our sins, and we're just trying to remind people by just being out here on Friday".
Easter, the celebration of Christ rising from the dead after three days, is probably the most significant Christian holiday. However, compared to Christmas it's underrated.
Gray says, "Christmas is so centered around the commericialism. and there's not much money to be made at Easter time, and that's why people tend to forget about Easter".
At Faith Baptist Church Pastor Gray is trying to bring more awareness. Gray says, "Easter is really a primary holiday. It's what sets Christians apart from all the other religions in the world. We don't worship a god who stayed on a cross or stayed in a tomb, we worship a God who is alive today and is coming back to get us some day. That's why its so importnat to us, and its actually a primary holiday in my opinion".
