Longview — Dan Mercer was working in his garden this past week when he heard a familiar, unnerving sound.
“I heard the squealing brakes and skidding tires from a good distance — that’s the norm,” he said, describing the sounds of a crash at the intersection of George Richey and Pine Tree roads. “Then there’s the big crash, metal grinding. And it all comes to a stop. We’re kind of used to it.”
After having lived about a half mile from the intersection for 40 years, Mercer called for improvements to the five-pronged intersection — something a mayor’s task force agreed to two years ago.
