Lufkin, TX (KETK) — The Lufkin Police Department needs your help capturing a person in connection with a kidnapping and theft of a vehicle.
On Tuesday, around 5:26 p.m., officers responded to Kid Kountry Day Care, located in the 2500 block of West Frank Avenue, following a report that an unidentified suspect stole a car with a six-year-old female in its backseat.
The vehicle's owner said she left the car engine running and her daughter in the vehicle's backseat while she went inside the day care to get her other daughter. The woman said when she exited the building she saw her car driving westbound on West Frank Avenue.
Dispatchers notified all area law enforcement of the incident and asked for assistance finding the child and vehicle.
Moments later, dispatchers learned the child was released, unharmed, in the parking lot of a mobile home park in Hudson.
At 6:00 PM, Angelina County Sheriff's Office Deputies and Hudson Police Officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of a Hudson apartment complex located in the 800 block of Mount Carmel Road.
The suspect was described as a 20 to 25-year-old black male with short hair, wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts and white and black shoes but officers did not find him.
At this time, detectives have not linked this crime to the April 1st theft of a truck from a doctor's office parking lot in the 1300 block of West Frank Avenue, but they are investigating that possibility.
The suspect in that crime was described as a 20 to 30-year-old black male wearing dark pants and a dark blue t-shirt with white emblem on it. The offense report described the suspect's hair as; "inch and a half to two inch afro type hair".
Authorities are also investigating the April 2nd theft of a car from the employee parking lot at a distribution center on West Frank Avenue. The suspect's description is currently unknown for that case.
