Tyler, TX (KETK) — Around noon on Wednesday, a house exploded across the street from T.K. Gorman school in Tyler.
It happened on the 1400 block of East South East Loop 323.
According to the Tyler Fire Department, a contractor was reportedly in the house doing floor repairs when the house exploded.
He caught fire and ran down the street calling for help.
Officials say a Smith County prosecutor was driving down the loop when he saw the man on fire. The prosecutor stopped to help the burning man and was injured in the process.
Authorities shut down all lanes for some time while crews extinguished the fire. The lanes have since been reopened.
The man had been using machinery in an unventilated area. Authorities have not yet identified the contractor or the owners of the house.
KETK will continue to update this story as more information comes in.
