Tyler, Tx — The Morning After Pill, or as some call it, Plan B, has always been a controversial medicine, but after a federal judge's ruling this Thursday the debate around this emergency contraception has become a little more heated.
A federal judge in Brooklyn ruled that a person of any age can purchase this pill without a prescription.
KETK spoke with Dr. Hope Short of Hope Family Medicine who warns, "The problems are multi-faceted. A lot of possible emotional problems, I don't agree at all that it should be non-prescription."
Hope advises parents to take the proper precautions with children so they will not be tempted to purchase this medicine, saying, " Take them to the doctor and discuss what their options are, one of which is abstinence."
The FDA has made no comment at this time but the U.S.. Department of Justice indicates a possible appeal of the ruling is being considered.
