Atlanta, GA (CNN) — The gunman appeared to be having financial disorders, and was demanding that his utilities be turned back on.
Authorities went in after determining the firefighters' lives were in "immediate danger" .
"This was the result of his actions," a police spokesman says of the hostage-taker.
4 firefighters suffered minor injuries; an officer also was wounded
The man who held firefighters hostage Wednesday in suburban Atlanta is dead, according to Gwinnett County police spokesman Ed Ritter.
Sources say one police officer was wounded but it is not life-threatening.
A barricaded gunman is holding five Gwinnett County, Georgia, firefighters hostage in suburban Atlanta, a Atlanta police spokesman said.
According to Gwinnett County Fire spokesman Captain Thomas Rutledge, the firefighters were taken hostage while responding to a medical call and had no reason to suspect anything different.
According to officials, one of five firefighters has been released.
