Longview — About four months ago, John Claude Axberg of Kilgore began taking his revenge on a red oak.
The tree had fallen in a storm and knocked out electricity to his home. Axberg, an East Texas woodcarver, had been commissioned to create a statue, and as he eyed the fallen tree, he knew exactly what he would do to it.
Today, his completed eagle statue has been installed at Oak Valley Acres in Longview, where it appears to sit upon rocks at a pond. But behind the eagle’s eyes is a story of dedication for its woodcarver.
