East Texas — Recent rains refreshed lawns, but they haven’t refilled lakes and rivers still suffering from the droughts of 2011 and 2012.
“There hasn’t been enough rain across East Texas to amount to any significant runoff,” National Weather Service Hydrologist C.S. Ross said. “We’re still recovering from the drought of ‘11 and ‘12. This gets much worse the farther west you go.”
The Texas Water Development Board reported to the legislature on Monday that 98.6 to 99.6 percent of the state remained in drought. The water board added, though, that the severity of drought was slightly reduced by recent rains.
