Henderson County, TX (KETK) — UPDATE (April 22nd): Authorities with the Henderson County Sheriffs Office have identified the man who died after falling into the water of Lake Palestine on Sunday night.
Captain Mike Hanson tells KETK that the man is Frederick Perkins, 46, of Tyler.
He and a woman were fishing on the lake at the time.
The woman told authorities that Perkins tried to remove a string of fish from the side of the boat when he fell in. It still is not certain whether the boat capsized or if he fell over the side.
At some point, they both fell into the water.
The woman was wearing a life jacket, but Perkins was not. He attempted to swim to shore, but was unfortunately unable to make it.
A witness saw the incident happen, and directed first responders to the location of the accident.
Henderson County Sheriff officials, Noonday Fire and Rescue as well as game wardens from Henderson County and Smith County, aided in the search for Perkins.
His body was located using sonar equipment around 11:50 p.m., Sunday night.
The woman's condition is not known at this time.
ORIGINAL STORY (April 21st): KETK has received reports of a drowning on Lake Palestine, just south of Chandler.
Chandler Volunteer firefighters tell KETK, it happened around 6:45 p.m., Sunday evening, near Big Eddie Road.
Two people were on a boat when it capsized. One woman made it to shore, but rescue divers are still searching a 40-year-old man who is missing.
Divers were able to find a lifejacket in the water.
