Longview — Gregg County commissioners will begin opening arguments today on a question that’s puzzled jurors in Longview for years — where to park.
“They circle and circle and circle and circle,” Commissioner Ronnie McKinney said, describing drivers trying to make a 9 a.m. jury call most Monday mornings, when about 200 vehicles are added to the daily hunt for a parking spot at the downtown Longview courthouse.
“We’ve got a problem with the public, we’ve got a problem with our own employees,” he said. The problem includes a congested parking lot across Whaley Street, where county workers pay for the chance to park.
That lot, across Fredonia Street from First United Methodist Church, has been identified in recent years as the most likely site for solving both problems.
