Longview — They swam, they cycled, and they ran — all in the amount of time it takes to eat breakfast.
About 150 contestants from across East Texas gathered early Sunday to compete in the first Good Shepherd Institute for Healthy Living Sprint Triathlon, a short-distance race organizers said is ideal for people new to the sport.
The nine months of planning the event were worth it, said Justin Moore, an emergency room physician at Good Shepherd Medical Center and organizer of the event.
“It went well. We didn’t have any major injuries, everybody seemed to be happy,” Moore said. “We had a guy in his 70s compete, and we had a 10-year-old girl compete as part of a team. I think we kind of covered the gamut.”
