Gladewater — Looking at a come-and-go crowd of thousands of East Texans on Saturday, Joe Sciarrini can’t help but reflect on what the annual Taste of the Oil Patch has meant to the nursing home he oversees.
“It is one of the greatest things I have ever experienced,” said Sciarrini, administrator for the Truman W. Smith Children’s Care Center in Gladewater.
“It’s just undying support. We have oilmen that come back and make it a point to provide their best food to support our center.”
The Taste of the Oil Patch is one of two fundraisers that raises money for Truman W. Smith, the state’s only nursing home for medically fragile children and brings together different oil companies to cook an all-you-can eat feast.
