Kilgore — School trustees agreed Monday the district has come too far in addressing shortfalls with federal education standards to seek answers in a controversial curriculum guide.
The unanimous decision to design their own curriculum was on the recommendation of newly hired Superintendent Cara Cooke. It also sidesteps potential heat trustees could have felt had they opted for the CSCOPE curriculum guide under their consideration.
“There’s a lot of groundwork that has already been laid,” Cooke said, describing curriculum development Kilgore schools have undertaken in the past three or four years. “A lot of this is already started. What we’re missing is the link — we don’t have the link from campus to campus.”
