NBC33 — A Texas man was arrested after he allegedly fled from deputies while armed with two guns he stole from a home during a recent burglary.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident occurred on Tuesday, April 30. We’re told it all started at around 8:00 a.m. after a suspicious man knocked on the door of a residence in the Lake Village subdivision located in Slidell.
The homeowner called law enforcement and told them that the man was traveling in a white van. Deputies located a white Chrysler van in the area and attempted to stop the potential suspect.
Officials say the driver, Charles Daughtry, 61, of Denton, TX, refused to stop his vehicle and sped off. He eventually turned down a dead end street and was blocked in by deputies. They say Daughtry got out of the vehicle armed with two handguns that he found inside a home he later confessed to burglarizing.
Although cornered, Daughtry attempted to flee on foot. However, he was quickly apprehended.
Investigators searched Daughtry’s van and located evidence that connected him to several burglaries in the area. When questioned, he reportedly confessed to committing multiple burglaries in Slidell, Mandeville and Covington.
Deputies have notified the other police agencies where Daughtry claims to have committed the other crimes. They are currently working on a joint investigation at this time.
Daughtry was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail for Flight from an Officer, Aggravated Burglary, and Illegal Carrying of a Weapon. He could face additional charges.
