(CNN) — Thousands of Islamist protesters pushing for blasphemy laws packed streets of Dhaka, Bangladesh, Sunday. Some set off homemade explosives and clashed with police, who fired tear gas and rubber bullets.
Islamic activists said three people were killed. CNN saw one body on the street. Police did not immediately report casualty figures.
The protest was unrelated to the recent building collapse that killed hundreds of people and sparked protests and clashes as well.
Protesters Sunday called for tough laws against bloggers and writers whom they believe insult the Prophet Mohammed.
