Longview, TX (Longview News-Journal) — Drivers along Interstate 20 this weekend in South Longview should expect delays as crews begin repairing the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard overpass, damaged this past month when a tractor-trailer wrecked and burst into flames, TxDOT officials said Thursday.
“Crews will be power washing underneath the overpass all weekend as much as they can without affecting traffic,” TxDOT spokesman Larry Krantz said. “The purpose is to determine the extent of damage, which we can’t do right now because of soot and dirt. ”
The work will shut down the outside westbound lane of I-20, Krantz said. He said demolition will start by mid to late next week.
TxDOT awarded Gibson & Associates a $317,000 bid for the work, which is expected to be completed by July 1.
