CNN — A justice department official leaked an internal memo written by an ATF agent who had criticized the DOJ's "Fast and Furious" gun trafficking program.
That's according to a new report on Monday from the DOJ's inspector general.
The report says U.S. Attorney in Arizona, Dennis Burke, leaked the memo in an apparent attempt to undermine Agent John Dodson's credibility.
The report also says Burke admitted he leaked Dodson's memo to the media in August of 2011.
Burke resigned after admitting to the leak.
The "Fast and Furious" operation allowed suspected drug cartel member to illegally buy weapons in order to track them back to senior Mexican cartel members.
Agents lost track of hundreds of weapons in the process.
