Lindale, TX (KETK) — Lindale High School Seniors Fate Richey and Michael Olsen are the recipients of full-tuition scholarships to the University of Texas-Arlington courtesy of the General Tommy Franks Four Star Leadership Program.
Richey and Olsen each received $33,000 scholarships. Forty-eight students from across the country applied and Richey and Olsen are two of only three to receive the full scholarships.
The LHS seniors were eligible for the scholarships after attending the General Tommy Franks Four Star Leadership summer program in 2012. General Tommy Franks is a former commander of American and coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Four Star Leadership invites top high school leaders from across America to apply to attend the all-inclusive program that is free to selected students. Political leaders, Olympians, journalists and top national policy experts mentor the students during the camp and assist them in developing and demonstrating character, vision, communication and caring.
“It is extremely exciting,” Richey said. She plans to double major in Drama and English at UTA and become a teacher. “I am honored to get to study at a great college.”
Olsen plans to major in English and minor in Business Administration. He would like to pursue a career as an author.
“It will be nice to not have to take out student loans,” Olsen said. “This will be an awesome start to my post-high school life.”
