CNN — DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. (which shares a parent company with CNN) have announced that the iconic superhero now has a new signature image that honors the character's 75th anniversary this year.
Inspired by Superman's costume, the commemorative logo shows a silhouette of the classic comic book figure in that rich shade of Superman blue, with the familiar symbol on his chest outlined in white. The bottom of the new logo features "75 Years" in block letters, giving tribute to the span of time the hero has been an indelible part of pop culture.
You'll see the logo on all Superman promotions, products and initiatives going forward, including a "Superman Unchained" comic book from DC Entertainment. The book, from writer Scott Snyder and artist Jim Lee, will be available June 12.
Yet the logo's just the beginning, as both companies are throwing a year-long celebration in honor of the Man of Steel's longevity. Superman fans can also look for an animated short tribute that will recount his high-flying adventures over the past seven-and-a-half decades.
"Superman is undeniably the greatest superhero in the world, and likely the most influential comic book character of all time," said the President of DC Entertainment, Diane Nelson, in a statement. "In addition to being an enduring presence in pop culture for the last 75 years, he continues to be a commanding global icon. DC Entertainment and all of Warner Bros. look forward to celebrating this important, year-long anniversary for Superman."
Part of that celebration will arrive on June 14, when "Man of Steel," Zack Snyder's reboot of the Superman story, opens nationwide.
"It's a great honor for all of us involved in 'Man of Steel' to carry on the tradition of Superman for longtime fans as well as a new generation of moviegoers," Snyder said. "I'm so excited to share the movie with them and to be a part of this celebration."
