Tyler, Texas (KETK) — You can't forget about your kittens and puppies while you're traveling this summer. Especially if you're taking a road trip in this hot Texas heat. Family vacations can be something to look forward to.
But, your pets need extra care especially when they are traveling with you.
Local Animal Care expert, Pam Hicks from ‘Homeward Bound’ K9 rescue says, make sure your pets are secure in long care rides, make sure to stop at least every 3 hours if you're on a road trip and walk your dog; and give them water.
Hicks says, never leave your animal unattended inside of hot car. Hicks also says, watch what you feed them. "I would not feed large meals before a car trip, because a lot of dogs get sick, and you want to keep that in mind maybe cute their food in half."
Hicks also says, if you can't tend to your pets while you're on vacation it may be a good idea to pay to board them while you're away or have a family member watch them.
