Austin, TX (KETK) — Lufkin area volunteer Dan Maxwell is dedicated to serving the residents of the Lufkin State Supported Living Center through music. He is the volunteer director of the Rhythm Ensemble that performs at the statewide music festival for all 13 living centers and serves on the Statewide Music Festival Steering Committee. His commitment to the residents is wholehearted.
In recognition of his important contributions, the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) this Thursday will honor Mr. Maxwell with a Vision award, which recognizes the contributions of a handful of outstanding individual volunteers and organizations statewide.
“This is the reason we created the Vision Awards,” says DADS Commissioner Jon Weizenbaum. “There are truly some amazing individuals and organizations who are working to make life better for Texans who are aging or who have disabilities. They deserve to be honored for the many ways they are making a difference.”
In addition to his work with the Rhythm Ensemble and Statewide Music Festival, Mr. Maxwell serves on the center’s Human Rights Committee in support of the dignity, health and rights of residents.
His award is one of 10 being given at this year’s ceremony, which will be held at 2 p.m. this Thursday, June 13, at DADS, 701 W. 51st St. in Austin.
