West, Texas (KETK) — Media reports are stating Governor Rick Perry received a letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency saying they are not going to provide money to assist in rebuilding a Central Texas town that was ripped apart by a fertilizer plant explosion where homes and businesses were lost and 15 people were killed.
The letter states FEMA reviewed the appeal for funds to help West, Texas, but according to standards FEMA has, the impact from the explosion is not severe enough to warrant aid.
According to West Mayor Tommy Muska, funds are needed to cover $57-million in damages, including $40-million to reconstruct the school.
KETK will update information as it becomes available.
