Tyler , TX (KETK) — It's about that time of year again to summerize your car.
If you don't, you probably are at risk for some major car problems and extra money you don't want to spend.
"The first thing you should do is have the cooling system checked make sure it's working properly. You need to make sure you have the hoses and belts looked at, you need to have your brakes looked at because brakes get hotter in the summertime, than they do in the fall or the spring," said Owner of West Erwin Auto Repair George Cornett.
Cornett says summer is the busiest time of year.
People are getting their cars ready to go on vacation and prepping for the summer heat.
"Once your car overheats there is not much going back. You got to do something," said Cornett.
Cornett says during this time of year, he sees at least two to three people a day with damage due to the heat.
Cornett says in this kind of weather anything can easily break.
"A radiator can start leaking, blow all the water out, hose can break belt can break anything like that can happen at anytime."
And it can be dangerous.
"Pads to little or to thin or something it can cause loss of breaking power."
Most East Texans know the summer procedure.
"Yes every year."
"I had new anti freeze put in and i had the air conditioning checked out and serviced."
But, others learn the hard way and their air conditioning broke in the middle of summer.
"Well they serviced my air conditioner and replaced some belts one of my cylinders were bad so just a lot of different things."
