Tyler, TX (KETK) — An East Texas bakery is getting some national publicity.
The Luscious Crumb in Mineola will be featured on the Food Network's Cupcake Wars June 30.
Owner Dawn Trammell started her business two years ago because she loved the show.
Two years later, she went from viewer to contestant.
What makes a good cupcake?
"Definitely your ingredients, and care and love that goes into baking it," Trammell said. "None of us are what we call "skinny" here, but they say never trust a skinny cook, so maybe that means we're really trust worthy!"
The day Trammell opened the store, she told her daughters they would one day be on Cupcake Wars.
After plenty of persistence, persuasion and a little "sweet talking," The Luscious Crumb got the call they had anxiously been waiting for.
"Finally when we got the call, it was just crazy," Trammell said. "We went nuts in here... Being able to be on Cupcake Wars is kind of just a validation that we are doing all the right things."
In October of last year, Trammell flew to Los Angeles, and competed against four other bakers from across the country.
"It was crazy, hectic, chaotic, but loads of fun," Trammell said. "Anything that can go wrong will when you are on the clock like that, but we managed to muddle through."
The episode will air June 30 on The Food Network.
The winner of Cupcake Wars gets to cater a Hollywood party with their cupcakes.
They also win $10,000.
The city of Mineola is holding a watch party from 6 to 9 p.m. June 30 at the Lake Country Playhouse/Select Theater in downtown Mineola.
