Longview, TX (Longview News-Journal) — Good Shepherd Health System announced this morning it has hired a president and chief executive officer, ending an eight-month search by the board overseeing the nonprofit medical system anchored by Good Shepherd Medical Center.
A Certified Public Accountant, Steve Altmiller comes to Longview immediately from Tupelo, Miss., where he was president of North Mississippi Medical Center. He also has been president and CEO of medium to large hospitals in Texas and New Mexico during a 35-year career.
"We are looking forward to the leadership that Mr. Altmiller will bring to Good Shepherd," board Chairman Buck Birdsong said in a statement released shortly before 10 a.m. today.
Altmiller succeeds former system CEO Ed Banos who was ousted in September after serving in the position since 2008. The system was guided since then by system Executive Vice President Ken Cunningham.
