(KETK) - Tyler Tx — It's that time of year again.....
Time to trade in the jeans and sweaters for swimsuits and short shorts.
And if you're not feeling ready to bare all.... you're not alone.
But don't fret. There's a list of summer foods that can help you shed weight and feel your best.
Dietitian Sara Upson shared some tips on exactly what foods you want to make sure to see in your grocery cart during these hot months.
"Watermelon, berries... blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cherries, cantaloupe, melons, almost any fruit," Upson said.
She says you want to stick to fruits and veggies because they're in season and have multiple benefits for your body.
"There's a lot of really great summer produce available that not only will they help with weight loss, but overall health," Upson said. "They help to aid in hydration because it's hot outside and you're sweating so you need to replace the fluids that are lost and fruits and vegetables can help do this."
Upson says it's much better to stick to the fruits and vegetables.... and avoid any crazy, crash diets.
The tempting quick fix can really cost you in the long run.
"I don't recommend any diet," Upson said. "I've seen anywhere from 70 to 95 percent of diets fail. You can temporarily lose weight. So maybe you want to fit in your swimsuit for your summer vacation in a couple week, but what happens is we see rebound weight gain where people actually gain that weight back... plus more."
So if you're looking to strut your stuff this summer you may want to head over to the produce section of your local grocery store.
