Longview, TX (Longview News-Journal) — East Texans with disabilities got a chance to learn how to more effectively enter — or re-enter — the workforce during the East Texas Center for Independent Living’s Summer Youth Fun Days.
Any adult age 16 or older with physical or mental disabilities can participate in the program, said Outreach Coordinator Karen Holt.
“The focus of these classes is on learning to live independently,” Holt said. “Our goal is to give people with disabilities the tools, knowledge and confidence to be successful in their jobs and other aspects of their lives.”
The people who attend the program usually have a strong desire to find ways to participate in the workforce, she said.
Employees of Convergys and Goodwill helped at the program Wednesday, discussing appropriate dress, behavior and attitude to have when interviewing for a job.
