Union Grove, Texas (KETK) —
Janna L. Goza, 45, of Gladewater, was sentenced by Judge Lauren Parish in the 115th District Court to 10 years in the Texas Department of Corrections for theft of a property over $20,000 but less than $100,000 following a guilty plea to a Gilmer court on Tuesday, June 25.
In January, 2012, the Union Grove Water Board members contacted the Upshur County District Attorney's Office concerning questionable transactions involving the Union Grove Water Supply Corporation finances.
This led to months of investigation by DA Investigator, Jon Warren, with assistance from the Water Supply Corporation business clerk, Cathy Harris, into missing cash payments and unauthorized charges to the corporation credit card.
Warren learned Goza, who managed to gain full control over the corporation finances, had taken over $40, 000 over a two-year period.
Goza falsified business meeting minutes, altered paychecks and had not deposited some of the customer cash payments with the bank deposits for the Water Supply Corporation,
Goza got a felony conviction and was put on probation to allow her to repay the UGWSC customers the restitution.
Goza released the following apology to the corporation:
"I would like to extend my apologies to all concerned as the Bible says, "Thru our faith, confession and repentance, that we may all move forward to better days."
