Longview, TX — The dean of Kilgore College-Longview is laying groundwork for an expansion of the school’s downtown campus to accommodate more industrial skills courses.
“I need some more educational building (space),” said Julie Fowler, executive dean of the college’s Longview campus. “What we really want to do is expand our industrial maintenance program that’s in the back. And we want to do a plumbing program because there is such a huge need for master plumbers.”
The focus of the expansion is property occupied chiefly by a vacant home a half-block south of the campus at High and South streets. Kilgore College owns the property, thanks to an investment by the Longview Economic Development Corp. Other property could be developed for parking.
Fowler said it is too early in the process to have an estimated price tag. Her aspiration, so far, has gone no further than a June presentation to the Longview Historic Preservation Commission, which oversees the neighborhood under ordinances governing the South Main Street District.
