Gilmer — Buckeye Stadium was built in 1950 but it looks brand new now.
That's what a $2 million renovation will do.
The stadium will be the setting for Gilmer's annual East Texas Passing Academy.
Gilmer coach Jeff Traylor didn't invent the forward pass.
He refined it.
The coach spoke with KETK Sports Director Danny Elzner about Gilmer's high-flying offense.
He said the idea for it came from another sport.
"I used to be a basketball coach and I could tell kids didn't want to play football as much as they did basketball," Traylor said. "I always though it would be neat to play basketball on the football field."
I didn't know much about it," Traylor continued. "It started changing. I started studying it. I just learned it through the years. Now it's gotten huge in Texas and everywhere in the country. The spread game is just about how everyone plays the game."

The Academy will begin next Monday, July 15.
