NEW LONDON, TX — Time and patience are running out for parents of West Rusk CISD graduates who were promised in May that a benefactor would pay their children’s full college tuition if they attended East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
With about two weeks until a July 31 deadline for tuition to be paid at ETBU, 21 West Rusk High School graduates are still waiting for funds pledged by Houston filmmaker Nicholas J. Sturghill.
Their parents hope to have answers tonight, when they meet with the college president.
Tuition for the coming school year, at 14 credit hours, costs $27,430 per student, according to estimated cost information from ETBU.
Robert Jordan, who addressed the community in May on behalf of the filmmaker, said Sturghill was on business in Panama at the time of the announcement.
