Longview, TX (Longview News-Journal) — If a child or animal is left in a hot car during a Longview summer, the Longview Police Department is willing to smash a window to save a life.
“Our utmost duty is to save lives, if it means smashing a window to save the life of an animal, then that is what we are prepared to do,” said Kristie Brian.
The practice and the message behind it are nothing new, she said.
Each year, during summer when temperatures spike and reach triple digits, the city’s police go on an information campaign reminding residents that leaving children or animals unattended is not only dangerous but illegal.
In fact, the protection of saving a life may apply to a resident who acts in a time of need.
