Longview (KETK) — Joey Kalmus coached Chris Davis ten years ago at Longview High School.
He told KETK Sports Director Danny Elzner that Davis could swing it.
"He set the team record in home runs," Kalmus said. "He hit seven as a junior and 13 as a senior. He had a slugging percentage of .911. He also led the team in walks. Coaches wouldn't pitch to him. Lobo Field is one of the largest in Texas. No telling how many home runs he would have had if we played in a smaller field."
"He's been successful at every level," Kalmus added. "In the back of my mind I was hoping that if he got the reps and relaxed things would come around. He's making more contact this year and the results are quite an improvement for him."
