Longview, TX (KETK) — A dog shot several times with a pellet gun is on the road to recovery.
"Spike Dillinger," named by workers at the Humane Society of Northeast Texas, had more than 40 pellets removed from him during surgery on Tuesday. Many of the pellets were in his head including three in his eye. A veterinarian had to remove the eye on Wednesday.
Dillinger was found wondering on South Green Street by a Longview Police Officer covered in blood on Tuesday.
After being taken to the Humane Society of Northeast Texas workers discovered the extent of the abuse and sent him to a local veterinarian for treatment.
Dr. Kenny Kimbrough tells KETK Dillinger is in good spirits despite the abuse and other health issues.
Donations are being accepted at the Humane Society of Northeast Texas and at Kimbrough Veterinarian Clinic in Longview.
Longview police are investigating the abuse and if you have any information you are asked to contact them.
