Tyler, Texas — The Willowbrook Country Club in Tyler was covered in roses on Thursday for the 80th Annual Texas Rose Festival Kick Off Celebration.
For the past 80 years thousands of visitors head to Tyler during October for the Texas Rose Festival. This festival is a time for the rose capitol to celebrate the rose growing season.
While many East Texas girls dream of becoming the rose queen, only 80 have ever received the honor. This year Queen Rachel Vanderpool Clyde says it's an honor representing her city. Clyde says, "I know we all look forward to a fun season of events and forging new friendships my experience has reminded me of the history of this great tradition in our city."
Tickets go on sale September 3 at the Cowan Center. The rose festival takes place October 17-19.
