(KETK) Longview Tx — It's been two months since the East Texas Mail Processing and Distribution Center near Tyler closed.
"99% of my business is made up with the postal office, so the post office is hurting me," said Owner of Country Mailing Gary Hegar.
Country Mailer in Longview is a family-owned business that has been around since 1985.
They are a hub for businesses sending fliers, post cards and advertisement.
But, since the closing of the East Texas Processing and Distribution Center, business has been rough.
"My customers come up and say if I can't depend on the mail, my advertising getting to customers, in a timely matter than I'm just going to quit mailing," said Hegar.
Hegar started the business with his parents.
He says he's never seen it this bad.
"People who depend upon direct mail advertising do see the difference."
The Tyler center sorted mail for the 756 zip code (Longview) the 757 zip code (Tyler) 758 (Palestine) and some for the 759 zip code Lufkin.
When they decided to close that center, the Longview mail now goes to Shreveport, the Tyler and Palestine mail goes to Coppell and the Lufkin mail goes to Houston.
Spokesperson for USPS Mckinney Boyd says the postal service loses more than $25 million a day.
Boyd says the closing of the East Texas center offsets the loss.
"We anticipate though annually we can save anywhere from 11 to 14 million dollars," said Boyd.
