Longview — After being grounded by wind and clouds for two days, the U.S. National Hot Air Balloon Championship finally got off the ground Thursday in a clear East Texas sky.
Ideal flying conditions lifted the spirits of pilots and crew members while sharpening the competition, Waco pilot Bob Gonzales said.
“Everybody was just ready to go and so happy that we finally got good weather,” he said. “The weather was so perfect that the competition is going to be really tough to beat. All the pilots were getting to their targets.”
