Tyler , TX (KETK) — You may have seen or heard about the new bundt bakery coming to Tyler.
But, we think the real news here is the couple who just went into business just retired last year.
And as of Friday, the family-owned business has officially opened its doors.
"Cake makes everybody smile," said owner Jack Gabriel.
Today, smiles were all across the customer's faces.
"It's really good really good," said first time customer Pat Hutto.
"I like the frosting it's really good," said first time customer Savvanh Woodhall.
"We don't let anything go out of the bakery unless it's perfect," said Gabriel.
Gabriel has been in the food business since he was 15-years-old.
"I grew up in mess halls, bakeries, grocery stores, and I love baking fresh food."
Gabriel worked in the grocery business for the past 42 years, but when him and his wife Mona retired, they wanted to open their own business.
"Wanted to have a business that made people happy, a business everyone was excited about."
His grandpa and dad were both extraordinary bakers.
Gabriel's father was a master baker for the airforce.
Baking and cooking is in their blood.
"I actually remember the times when I was in the kitchen with my father and he was baking with the same type of equipment and it just brings back memories. Hopefully he's looking down right now saying that's my boy."
And opening the store brought their family together .
Their son is now the manager and their grandkids are very involved.
"It's a family business. I mean they think it's all theirs even though one of them is only 11-years-old it's like his business he's so excited," said Owner Mona Gabriel.
And their new customer's can't wait to come back for more.
