Kilgore — Trustees adopted a $55.5 million spending plan for Kilgore College Monday and set a 15.4-cent tax rate that’s unchanged from this year’s levy.
The budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year won a 7-2 approval with veteran Trustee C.B. “Scooter” Griffin and new board member Brian Nutt dissenting.
“One of the issues I’ve seen and heard discussed is, with the (state) cuts we received a couple of years ago, we’ve worked to regain some of the ground we lost,” Nutt said, noting some $500,000 in restored state aid. “But (the restored funds) are going out the back door, we’re adding $500,000 for salaries. It seems like we’re putting ourselves back in the same strain that we were in.”
